Norwich experience by Toni Rubio
The IDEA MOVES project allows students of the Training for Employment courses taught at IDEA, to participate in professional placements of two months in host companies in England, Northern Ireland or Italy; The project involves a grant for each student to cover the costs of travel, meals and accommodation. And one of these students was me.
The last winter I spent a grant of two months in the Climatic Research Unit in the University of East Anglia, at the city of Norwich. What I did was a climate research about the rain in the late summer on the South of the Valencian Gulf. During the research I improved my management of extensive datasets and programming skills, and even found some interesting climate results despite the short time available. On the other hand, I made some new friends through meetings with the Norwich Spanish-English exchange group, at some weekends we visit wonderful surrounding places like the Norfolk coast or Cambridge. It was really interesting. Summarizing, memorable experience but too short.
El proyecto IDEA MOVES, permite a los alumnos de los Cursos de Formación para el Empleo impartidos en IDEA, realizar estas prácticas profesionales de dos meses de duración en empresas de acogida en Inglaterra, Irlanda del Norte o Italia; el proyecto conlleva una beca para cada alumno para cubrir los costes de desplazamiento, manutención y alojamiento. Uno de estos alumnos fue también yo.
El pasado invierno estuve de beca por dos meses en el Climate Research Unit (Unidad de investigación climática) en la universidad de East Anglia, en la ciudad de Norwich. Mi trabajo allí consistía en una investigación sobre la lluvia a finales de verano en el entorno del sur del ‘Golf de València’. Durante mi estancia mejoré mis habilidades en programación informática y manejo de grandes series de datos, también encontré algunos resultados climáticos de interés, pese al poco tiempo disponible. Por otra parte, hice algunos nuevos amigos durante las quedadas del grupo de intercambio lingüistico Español-Inglés de Norwich, algunos fines de semana visitamos lugares muy bonitos del entorno, como la costa de Norfolk o Cambridge. Fue realmente interensante. Resumiendo, memorable experiencia allí, pero demasiado corta.
