The last stop in Andalucia – Sevilla

For Mert and Evelina the trip around Andalucía was over but I still had not had enough. This region is so different from Valencia. For me it was like being in another country suddenly. My last stop before going back to Alzira was Sevilla. I decided to visit Peter who is one of my ex-classmates from the high school. He is doing his Erasmus studies there and I have to say that it was a great decision to take this trip! After almost 6 months I felt like being “home” for a while – back in my language. It took me some time to get used to speaking in Slovak again but of course, nothing impossible. ;)

Even though it was December the weather in Sevilla was unbelievable. During the day we were walking just in t-shirts and riding on fancy city bikes in order to get around. What’s more, we managed to taste a very popular Ice Cream “La Abuela”. Everyone there gets really huge portion of ice-cream for a good price.

Luckily, Peter arranged everything and according to me, he was the best guide around Sevilla. Due to him I saw almost all the beauty that Sevilla offers. We had a tour around the old town and I was able to see one of Sevilla’s best-known monuments like The Gold Tower that is also known as La Torre de Oro or La Giralda de Sevilla – the bell tower of the Cathedral in Sevilla.Very famous among not just Spanish people is Real Alcázar with its admirable gardens. It is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe and it is situated directly next to the Cathedral.

One of the places that you must see when visiting Sevilla is Plaza de España. In Spain, there are many cities that have a square called Plaza de España but this square is for sure the most impressive one. It has a fountain in the middle, a small lake in a semicircular shape and a building behind that is ended by two towers, one on each side of the building. You can even order a small boat and go sailing there. It is like being in Venice! To get around you can rent a small tour in a horse cab or a segway and enjoy the wind in your hair.

At the end of the day we ended up in a nice restaurant in which we had an opportunity to see a Flamenco show – a traditional Spanish dance. It was my first time to see it in real life. I was a little bit shocked when I saw that the dancer was a man but right after his first step my doubts disappeared and I found it very interesting. This elegant and passionate dance has to be hard to learn since it requires many quick movements and you have to understand the technique and to be able to coordinate your feet and posture.
