St. Bernard

Back in 12th century, martyr Bernard from Valencian region, previously named Ahmet Ibn Al-Mansur was killed after converting from Islam to Christianity; along with sisters Zaida and Zoraida who had changed names to Mary and Grace.

It took several centuries and waves of finding relics – Bernard was proclaimed patron in 1643. The altar of the Church of Saint Catherine in Alzira commemorates his life and circumstances of his death.

Celebrating town´s historical background annually, Alzira comes alive with fiesta and concert of musicians on July 23rd. This year artists like Carlos Baute, Manu Tenorio, La Orquestra Modragón and other attracted crowds to Plaza Mayor.
