Karolina : My EVS Experience

My name is Karolina, I am 24 years old and I am from the Czech Republic. In the summer of 2016, I finished the first year of my masters. To gain and improve my skills and learn something new, I decided to take a gap year and go abroad as an EVS (European Voluntary Service) volunteer. Even though I have never studied teaching I decided to try something new and I applied for an English assistant position in a high school in Alzira, Spain.

Now, my project is about to finish and I realize how great a time I have had here. I have met so many new people. Some of them became my new friends and some of them just became part of my memories. Even though I will not be able to stay in touch with everyone who I have had a chance to meet here, they all will be always the small pieces of my EVS puzzle. Because, thanks to them I have learned so many new things. I have had so many exciting opportunities. I have seen so many amazing places…

EVS is a great opportunity to share experiences, knowledge, opinions, culture and the joy of life. One of my aims was to show my students that English is very important and once they know the language they can travel and work abroad, they can meet new people and learn about different cultures… because that is what makes all of us more open-minded and tolerant to each other no matter the age, religion or color. I hope I accomplished the goal.

I wish everyone had a chance to learn languages and to go abroad. If you are one of the lucky ones who can, just take this wonderful chance, GO and create your own EVS puzzle.
